Below is our recently snail mailed prayer letter. You can see our new updated web site at www.thaimissions.org comments and/or suggestions are always welcome.
June 2009
The year is rapidly passing by, but the Lord has been blessing in many wonderful ways. We are thankfully finished with summer and are happy that overall, it wasn’t very hot this year; only a few days of 100+. The rains started early, and it has been raining often, so often that it is hard to time washing the clothes; actually, washing is the easy part: it’s the drying that is hard.
New Life Baptist Church, Chiang Mai: We had a family come to visit from Hawaii to help teach English and do a computer seminar. Both were a resounding success. The computer seminar at our church went much better than I had expected. One of our Bible students knew almost nothing about how to operate a computer. He could turn it on and that was about it. After the week long seminar, he was able to type a letter, make a PowerPoint presentation and do many other simple tasks. We also did a seminar with Thai pastors and more experienced users in Korat. That also went well, and the students were eager to learn and seemed to acquire many new skills. At this seminar we distributed the MP3 recorders that were generously donated by two individuals. We are now putting sermons on the internet in Thai from several churches. If you speak Thai or know a Thai person, you can direct them to this resource at www.thailandbaptist.org. Apart from the English classes and the computer seminar, it was a great joy to see Dtom (who has been on our prayer list for some time) get saved and baptized. (pictures can be seen at http://picasaweb.google.com/atcfred or www.thaimissions.org. Needless to say, his mother was very happy and his salvation was a much needed boost and reminder to everyone who has unsaved loved ones that God is still in the saving business. Additionally, we had a young couple join the church in May. After the loss of many the last year, it is great to see several saved and new families join. Our prayer for men is being answered as we went from two men in March to five men as of today! Praise the Lord! Our land fund is growing at a crawl. We are still far short of our goal. We want to thank everyone who has sacrificially given to this project thus far. We are confident that in the Lord’s timing, an opportunity will present itself, and the funds will be available.
Wang Mai (Lisu Village): Sakhorn (our Bible student) continues to intern at this village. He is doing better leading the meetings, and his teaching is getting better every week. He is still a young man but has a heart for service and very sacrificially serves the Lord. We have seen some more interest in this village, but overall it continues to be a very slow work. We have made arrangements for a piece of land in the village but are waiting for the government to finish a survey so we can obtain a title to the land. This has been painfully slow, but we are thankful that we might have a place to call home for the church in Wang Mai.
Prayer Requests: Please continue to pray for our family and the members of New Life Baptist Church (Chiang Mai and Wang Mai). Spiritual growth for: Aye, Mai, and Phorn. Pray for Sakhorn as he continues to study in the Bible Institute and interns at the village church (started Dec. 2008). For salvation, please remember the following: Dtom, Tom, Eek, Mee (now in a combat zone in Southern Thailand), Kankaew’s family, Luu, Ingon, Pranii, Supot, and Nalongchai. We are humbled by the notes, birthday cards, and assurances of your prayers for us and the people of Thailand. We have a wonderful team of supporters and prayer partners. If all missionaries had a team like this assembled, I believe more could be done for the cause of Christ. May the Lord find all of us faithful at the work He has called us to.
